Best Western International opens its first property in Mauritius in February, adding the popular Indian Ocean island to its growing list of destinations.

BEST WESTERN Laguna Beach Mauritius enjoys a picturesque setting on the south-eastern coast of Mauritius, right on the beach and nestled amid gardens of tropical greenery. The resort’s 64 well-appointed and inviting rooms are in Standard, Deluxe and Family categories. Resort facilities include a swimming pool, two restaurants – Sardinella Ristorante and Wahoo Beach Bar & Grill, Dorado Pool Bar, spa, gym and mini-club, internet corner with ADSL connection, meeting room for up to 30 people banquet-style and boardroom for up to 16 people. There are changing room facilities for guests with early morning or late evening flights.

A range of activities is on offer at the resort, such as parasailing, water skiing, scuba diving, tube and banana boat rides, sunset catamaran cruises, speedboat and pirate boat trips, undersea walks and fishing both traditional and deep sea. Within a 20 minute drive of BEST WESTERN Laguna Beach Mauritius are four 18-hole international standard golf courses. Other beaches and various tourist attractions can also be reached from the resort.

“The addition of Mauritius to Best Western International’s global portfolio of destinations is a strategic milestone for us. This popular island nation enjoys renowned status among many of the world’s tourists and is expanding its appeal into other sectors as well. The addition of the Best Western name to Mauritius’ accommodation scene is a win-win situation for all and we look forward to playing our part in the destination’s continued growth” said Best Western International’s Vice President of International Operations – Asia and the Middle East, Glenn de Souza.

Situated off the southeastern coast of Africa about 900 km east of Madagascar, the Republic of Mauritius is a multi-cultural nation of people from African, Chinese, Indian, Muslim and European descent and a colourful playground of stunning beaches, lush forests and dramatic landscapes. Tourist activities on offer range from water sports like diving and fishing to golfing, trekking, skydiving and shopping, while fantastic cuisine is also readily enjoyed.

Mauritius is also a popular place to get married and for honeymoons. ‘Green tourism’ is fast growing with reserves and domains opening up to tourists, the nation’s medical tourism sector draws people for cosmetic surgery through to dentistry, while there’s also the offshore and Freeport sectors and new areas of growth like Business Process Outsourcing, duty free shopping and Integrated Resorts Schemes which enable foreigners to acquire property.
